Moving a half cut

Unless you have a fork lift, moving half cuts around can be quite a challenge!

If moving a half cut around your home garage, there are a couple of ways to move it from point to point.

Moving a half cut with a trolley jack

One of the easiest ways to move a half cut is to place a trolley jack under the cut in a way so that it balances from the centre of gravity.

You should have at least two people to perform this method, as the half cut will be balancing on a fairly small point and could be unstable.

When using this method it’s best to raise the half cut just a centimetre or two off the ground.  This will keep the cut more steady, and reduce the chance of chopping your toes off!

Moving a half cut with an engine crane

It’s possible to move a half cut with an engine crane, but it can be dangerous.

Attach chains from either side of the half cut in a way that balances the load, and lift the cut using the engine crane.

Be very careful if using this method, as changes in the weight distribution can cause the half cut to shift suddenly, either from side to side or up and down like a see-saw.

Just drive it!

That’s right, in some cases you can actually drive your half cut.  Check out the video below…

This can seem like an easy option to move your half cut, but first you should take a good look at the accelerator cable and brake lines.

These areas can be prone to damage during the cutting and transporting process, and if your accelerator became stuck open or the brakes failed, you could cause some very serious damage to your garage, your half cut, and of course yourself.
